Hi I'm Gemma
I have had an extensive background in the sports setting and began working with sports and
sporting injuries from a young age under the guidance of Dr Richard Harvey, a prominent sports medicine doctor in Lismore (and my dad). I completed my Level 1 sports trainers’ certificate at the age of 18 and began working with junior and senior rugby league and union. I then went on to work for the next 23 years in a large variety of sports as both a sports trainer and a physiotherapist. I was extremely fortunate to train under the Melbourne Storm physiotherapist in 2006 and spent 3 years travelling with NSW Country Cricket at the Australian Country Championships.
My other accomplishments are:
- Physiotherapist for Weston soccer club, NBN state league Soccer
- Physiotherapist Emerging Jets – Tour of Qatar 2015
- Physiotherapist Australian Masters Hockey contingent 2019 Trans-Tasman Tournament
I completed my Human Movement/Exercise Science degree at Southern Cross University in 2006 and moved to Newcastle to study Physiotherapy. I graduated in 2010.
I believe in a holistic, hands on approach to my patients and have tailored my ongoing
education to encompass this. I try to challenge my knowledge by selecting courses that
expand my knowledge of a variety of topics to enable me to help people with problems that
may be more difficult to diagnose and treat. Some areas of special interest:
Lumbo-pelvic dysfunction/ women’s health and pelvic floor
Headaches and cervicogenic dysfunction
Hand therapy and splinting
Paediatric physiotherapy
Dry Needling and Kinesio taping
